Modern Caribbean Rum

Delivery took a little longer than expected, but the books were so amazing that it was well worth the wait.

As a career beverage alcohol professional, I could not be more delighted with this on my reference shelf. Any distiller or aspiring rum blender would be remiss not to have a copy.

It did fall off my dining room table and frighten a dog, but that's gravity's fault more than the (massive) book's.

Modern Caribbean Rum is beautifully laid out, well organized, with an approachable writing style that drew me right in. I like how the subject is presented from the simple beginnings to a comprehensive tome that leaves you wanting for nothing--except a lovely rum cocktail. Or two.

This book is encyclopedic in knowledge, but is so well written I couldn't put it down when I first got it. Must read for anyone interested in rum.

Really a wonderful book with great pictures. Really explains everything dies. Did a phenomenal job.

It's a WonkPress book, what's not to love. If it's about Rum, it's in this museum quality book.

Deep Dive

If you’re into rum, you have to have this book. It covers pretty much everything you may have asked yourself about this spirit. (And much more that you never thought of)
And it’s not a quick coverage: it’s an extensive one. Full of details, clarifications, pictures (recent or historical), …
I can’t recommend it enough, and it makes a useful decoration piece on a coffee table.

From history, to detailed production across the entire region, this book is remarkably detailed. A truly delightful book with plenty of great pictures. Unmatched for rum and really a standout example for any spirit category.

So much information and no section contains uninteresting material. The
entire book is a total must read.

Where the book really stands out is the manner in which the author guides
the reader through new considerations about Caribbean rum. Matt's writing
style is so genuine, mature and easy to relate to. He can anticipates sidebar questions about a topic and happily he provides this information then and there.

This is a heavy/bulky book, but so far I've resisted the temptation to cut it into
more manageable sections. Urge that a second edition be printed as a two
volume offering, even if that increases the price.

Finally, a thought about the MANY superb photos, all of which are in such satisfying detail which would be reduced if the book were an e-book product. The only photo suggestion I would make is to print the captions white on a black background and not directly on the photo itself.

I bought 2 books, one for myself and one to give as a surprise to a fellow rum geek. Amazing amount of information and facts about this wonderful spirit. Thank-you Matt & Carrie for providing us with all your in--depth deep dive research. I bet it was fun visiting the many distilleries in your book and sampling the varied rums and talking with the master distillers. Definitely a must-read book for those of us wanting to glean more knowledge about this wonderful spirit we call rum / rhum / ron. Cheers!

Excellent book. A must have for the rum enthusiast.

I haven't even fully browsed through the book and must say, that I am impressed! Working in the spirits industry and dealing with Rum on a daily basis it is still broadening my rum horizon. Love it and can highly recommend it to everybody that is just willing to dive deeper into the subject. There is always something to learn, love it!

A fundamental knowledge base for Epicure of Rum spirits

Everything you wanted to know about rum plus more! A fantastic compilation with great photos. The history of rum and rum making is fascinating. Matt very eloquently sets the record straight on some of the myths and legends of this great drink.

If you want to learn about rum/Rhum then this is the book. It is an encyclopedia of rum but reads much better than that. I bought two of them. I kept one and gave one as a gift to a fellow rum lover.

I'm still working my way through this book. Such is the amount of information. It's basically an encyclodpedia on Rum. It obviously took years of observation, learning, and writing to put this together. And it's well illustrated with photos and charts.

If you ever wanted to peek inside the Rum industry, learn some of the technical aspects of making rum, grab this one while you can. The one fault I have is that it's too big to read in bed! There is that much material. So you're really getting several books worth of information in this one tome.

Incredible book, gives an in depth insight into the world of rum in the Caribbean with amazing imagery to go with it.

Simply the most comprehensive, detailed, and thorough single volume I have ever seen written on rum, and perhaps any spirit. It is hard to fathom the depth of this book - it is a miracle something of this scope exists! The organization is incredible. The details are researched and nuanced. The illustrations are captivating. Despite it being over 800 pages it is amazingly accessible. As rum becomes increasingly more transparent and popular in the US, this book is of indispensable value in bringing to light what is happening with the worlds most exciting spirit. This is a book I will treasure for a lifetime.

It's a super educational book that lets you know where rum comes from, How It's Made, it's history, in depth look at the distilleries making it today, and an interesting part the business. Great writing as well. comprehensive without being obtuse or redundant. Very up-to-date and representative of the word modern in the title. I can guarantee you that even a rum enthusiast would be very well educated reading this book.

An indispensable resource for anyone who is even remotely interested in rum, it's history, production, chemistry et al. A tip of my hat to Matt & Carrie for their incredible efforts on putting this brilliant book together. Cheers guys🥃
